TWL Bar Study Scholarship

Background and Purpose

  Tallahassee Women Lawyers is hosting its Inaugural Bar Study Scholarship!

​

 The goal of the scholarship is to promote the TWL mission and meant to help the       recipient while they study for the Florida Bar Exam. It is made possible through the generous donations of TWL members, friends, and TWL Sponsors.

Each year a scholarship will be awarded to a deserving full-time or part-time law student who graduates from a Florida law school and takes the Florida Bar Exam for the first time the summer following the application deadline.

Eligibility Requirements

Successful applicants will have either:

  1. Demonstrably promoted the TWL mission through TWL membership and/or volunteer work; or

  2. Demonstrably involved themselves in pro bono work on their campus or in their local legal community.

If the student does not live in Tallahassee but intends to locate to this area or begin their career here, then they should explain what efforts/success they have had in maintaining or establishing ties to the Tallahassee legal community.

 

Applicants for the TWL Scholarship must meet the following criteria:

  • Must be a full-time or part-time law student who will take the Florida Bar Exam for the first time during the summer following the application deadline.

  • Must have significant campus and community involvement and/or leadership (see above Eligibility Requirements).

  • There is no cumulative GPA minimum requirement, but academic achievement and excellence will be strongly considered.

Award and Selection Process

So long as funding permits, the TWL Bar Study Scholarship consists of an award of $1,000.00. The award recipient will be invited to attend a TWL event in Tallahassee, where the recipient will be introduced. The Scholarship will be paid to the recipient after their law school graduation, generally in June.

The TWL Scholarship award recipient will be selected by the TWL Board of Directors, from the top five (5) recommended applications selected by TWL’s Mentoring Committee, which will evaluate applicants on the following criteria:

  • Personal essay (1 page max)

  • Community service, leadership, or volunteerism

  • One letter of recommendation

  • Academic achievement

  • Financial need

Application Deadline

The 2024 Application Deadline is Friday, March 29, 2024.

Scholarship Recipient Notification

The TWL Scholarship award recipient will be notified by email of their selection on or before May 1, 2024.
