TWL is pleased to have three distinguished panelists join us to present on various facets of First Amendment law. The first segment will be presented by First Amendment Foundation President Pamela Marsh and will address open government, public records and open meetings laws in the State of Florida, and 1159 exemptions that allow the government to withhold information. The second segment will be presented by Mary Ellen Klas, capital bureau chief for the Miami Herald, and will address Freedom of the Press issues commonly encountered by members of the press from the perspective of an award-winning journalist. The third segment will be presented by media attorney Linda Norbut of Thomas & LoCicero and will address significant past and current First Amendment litigation, i.e., Free Press and Free Speech. Participants will also have an opportunity to ask questions surrounding these very important legal issues. It is intended that all participants will leave this meeting with a better understanding of the rights we have under the First Amendment, which are critically important in today’s society.
